Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos told the UBS 45th Annual Global Media and Communications Conference in NY that the sixth season would be shortened to eight episodes instead of the usual 13. It will be an eight-episode season.
That left the ball in the court of House of Cards production company Media Rights Capital. Netflix suspended production on the show in the wake of sexual-assault allegations against Spacey.
Sarandos also said Season 6 would provide a "good creative conclusion" to the series.
Of those series, Netflix will continue The Crown, which Sarandos said is the business' "most efficient shows" for obtaining and keeping subscribers.
What do you think about the choice to have Robin Wright lead the final season of House of Cards?
Spacey also has been fired from a film about Gore Vidal in which he was to play the title character, and he was replaced by Christopher Plummer in the soon-to-release "All the Money in the World", forcing last-minute reshoots before the film's debut December 22. The fifth season of the drama ended with her character taking over as USA president. There is no word yet on when the final season of House of Cards will debut. Netflix also announced it would not be be moving forward with the film, Gore, which was in post-production and was produced by and starring Spacey.
Now that house of Cards is heading back into production, we can't wait to see how the final season plays out.
After the first allegation against him surfaced, Spacey issued a widely criticized statement in which he said he did not remember the incident but was sorry for the feelings the actor described, and then pivoted to come out publicly as gay.
