Smith and the team were made aware of the pending suspension last week and he chose to withdraw his appeal after suffering his torn Achilles against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. He will serve his suspension while on injured reserve and be eligible to play at the start of next season.
Before the injury, Smith was having one of his best seasons as a professional.
It's a pragmatic decision, since he suffered a torn Achilles yesterday and was done for the rest of the season anyway. He has only played two full 16-game seasons in seven years.
Smith, a key part of the Ravens defense, was injured in the second quarter of Sunday's game when he crumpled to the turf while trying to cover a deep pass.
Injuries have consistently hampered Smith's career.
