Homes on Moraga Drive, Linda Flora Drive, Casiano Road down to Bellagio Road, east of the 405, south of Mulholland Drive, North of Sunset Boulevard and west of Roscomare Road are now under mandatory evacuation orders. The 405 North freeway remains closed between the 10 and the 101 freeways, making it challenging to access some local businesses. Residents living west of the 405 should brace for evacuations, too, should flames jump the freeway, officials say. The so-called Skirball Fire was reported shortly before 5 a.m. near Mulholland Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. 4 structures confirmed destroyed, may be up to 6.This all according to Los Angeles Mayor.
Winds in the area were blowing at about 25 miles per hour, according to the Fire Department. The blaze was in the Sepulveda Pass near the Getty Center and the Skirball Cultural Center and caused the closure of portions of the highway. At least 1,000 firefighters were deployed to the scene. "It's critical residents stay ready and evacuate immediately if told to do so".
Another fire, dubbed the Creek Fire, raged near Sylmar and Kagel Canyon. It's unclear if the fire is burning the vineyard or the house as well. The fire burned more than 11,000 acres by Wednesday morning and had destroyed an estimated 30 homes, KTVU-TV reported.
Wind-whipped wildfires are burning extremely dry terrain along thenorthern and western edges of Los Angeles, and, more extensively, Ventura County, northwest of the city, for a third day.
LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas noted that red flag conditions are expected to remain in effect at least through Friday, with gusting Santa Ana winds presenting a continuing danger of rapidly spreading blazes. Along with the lack of much-needed rain, the Santa Ana winds have made it very hard to contain and put out the fires.
"This has only just begun", he said Tuesday.
