Manchester United's Ashley Young was charged with violent conduct by the English Football Association (FA) on Sunday after his altercation with Southampton midfielder Dusan Tadic in the Premier League the previous day.
The run of poor results has seen United slip down to the third place in the league standings, a point behind reigning champions Chelsea, and fifteen below runaway leaders and neighbours Manchester City. With the pair marking each other at a corner, Young elbowed Tadic in the stomach. "I can fall down but it was really unusual because I didn't expect that from him". 'No, no, no, nothing, ' said the Southampton player.
'I said, "You didn't do anything?"
Craig Pawson, the referee, failed to spot the clash, which allowed the FA to punish the in-form full-back retrospectively.
'I'm disappointed about that because you don't expect that from him, because he's an experienced player and he can not do that I think'.
Young will be suspended for the games against Everton in Monday, Derby County (in the FA Cup) and Stoke.
