When an evidently amused Letterman responds to Obama's quip about "karate kicks", the latter responds with a pertinent question: "Is that one of the things you do?" Former press secretary Josh Earnest called it a "a non-public event that occurred at the White House" at the time and told the publication that "given the private nature of the event, I don't have a lot of details to discuss from here".
Obama said the invitation to the dance floor surprised him "because she always mocks my dancing".
Former President Barack Obama gave parents tips on dancing and joked about his "dad moves" in a Netflix-released teaser of David Letterman's newest talk show, "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman". This will be Obama's first talk show appearance since he left office.
"You've got to stay in the pocket because I think everybody in here knows dads who get out of the pocket and they're trying stuff that they can't really pull off", he said, mentioning karate kicks as an example of a "dad" dance move.
"You've got to stay in the pocket", he said, likening a bad dancer's "safe space" to a comfort zone for a quarterback.
