A resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, there had been speculation that he was considering a challenge to Dianne Feinstein for the U.S. Senate in California this year.
Democratic mega-donor Tom Steyer says he purchased a copy of author 's controversial new book on the Trump presidency for each member of Congress to read. "Young voters are energized like never before, and have the power make the difference in 2018", Steyer said.
Steyer did not address whether he had plans for political office beyond 2018.
Steyer raised his profile by launching national advertising campaigns in October calling for President Donald Trump's impeachment.
His voter turnout campaign, called NextGen Rising, said it will target more than 30 seats held by Republicans and a handful of swing seats controlled by Democrats.
Steyer's initiative aims to contact more than 500,000 young voters; register 250,000 "through face to face conversations, online and through the mail"; Develop and train 2,000 volunteer leaders on campuses and in communities, and hire 200 full time organizing staff and train 500 student fellows on more than 300 campuses.
Steyer said his House efforts will focus on 10 states: Arizona, California, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
The former hedge fund manager said he will instead pour tens of millions of dollars into Democratic efforts to retake the House. He started NextGen America, a political organization that supports liberal positions on climate change, immigration and health care, among other issues.
