After backing up the true freshman for the duration of the season, Eason announced his plans for transfer from Georgia. This season, he started game one against Appalachian State before leaving the game with a knee injury.
Fromm guided the Bulldogs to a 13-2 record, their first Southeastern Conference title since 2005, a thrilling victory in the Rose Bowl and a spot in the national championship game against Alabama.
After just a couple snaps in 2017, Georgia fans never got to know what Eason had became after beating out Fromm in the offseason.
After starting for Georgia as a freshman, Eason began this season as the No. 1 signal-caller ahead of Fromm. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining. That was confirmed Friday by someone close to Eason.
The expectation is that Eason will transfer back home to Washington. Eason told the Seattle Times that he had not yet made a decision, saying "Right now, I'm just spending time with this team. and we'll go from there". The Lake Stevens native, should he come to Montlake, won't be eligible to play for UW until 2019 and by then, he'll be the heavy favorite to replace a soon-to-be four-year starter in quarterback Jake Browning. Secondly, Washington is home to Eason.
"Going to sit down with my family and figure that out", Eason said. A former five-star recruit, Eason passed for 2,430 yards with a 16/8 TD/INT ratio as a true freshman in 2016.
That had been the outcome widely anticipated after the Bulldogs' 2016 starting quarterback did not return to that role after sustaining a sprained knee ligament after starting the opener this season. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, he really bonded with Fromm and worked hard to help him prepare for the games.
