NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur is expected to be named the next head coach of the New York Giants.

It's tough to know if Shurmur was the Giants' first choice or if they would have preferred someone like Josh McDaniels, but you can understand why Beckham is excited for the future. He then became the Eagles' offensive coordinator in 2013, winning the Eagles' season finale in 2015 as the team's interim head coach after Chip Kelly was sacked. As one of the nine known coaches Arizona has interviewed, it would expected he would meet with the Cardinals a second time.

Shurmur was the Cleveland Browns' head coach from 2011-12, going 9-23 in his two years with the team.

Several of the Arizona Cardinals' head coaching candidates remain busy with their teams in the National Football League playoffs.

While Shurmur has been creating miracles with Keenum in Minnesota, he will be entering a somewhat uncertain quarterbacking scenario in NY.

If Shurmur, who has earned a reputation as a quarterback guru, wants to build around a young signal-caller, he'll have the opportunity to get a top prospect in the draft.

The Giants can't officially offer the job or hire Shurmur until the Vikings season comes to an end. Before taking over as offensive coordinator, he was the tight ends coach at the start of 2016. He also helped quarterback Case Keenum have a career year and is known for getting a lot out of unheralded players.

In his second stint with the Eagles, the team set records for points, net yards, touchdowns and passing yards while winning the NFC East title in 2013. Fritz was the defensive coordinator in Green Bay when the Packers defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 31.
