He took to the field and lined up alongside U.S. army soldiers and prepared to sing the Star-Spangled Banner before the game kicked off.
BBC reporter Anthony Zurcher stood up for the president: "For those grousing about Trump seemingly not knowing the words to the national anthem: 1) He's hard of hearing and 2) down on the field, the sound bounces around a lot and it's hard to decipher the music". The president can clearly be seen mouthing "bright stars" and he finishes with a flourish, smiling and singing "the land of the free and the home of the brave".
Before heading to the college national football championship on Monday, President Trump reiterated his views on athletes using the national anthem to protest racial discrimination and police violence in America. He had called on National Football League fans to boycott any games where players knelt during the anthem and called on National Football League to change its policy.
"There is plenty of space for people to express views and to protest", he said.
This is not the first time people have raised dementia concerns when it comes to the USA president. "We want to keep it that way".
Trump sparked controversy last September after he referred to Colin Kaepernick and other protesting athletes as "sons of bitches" during a rally in Alabama.
"Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he's fired?'" Trump said in August.
He has also repeatedly tweeted about the issue. At the time, Pence said, "I left today's Colts game because President Trump and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our flag, or our national anthem". "National Football League must respect this!" On Monday, he changed his Twitter banner to an image of him standing for the Anthem.
It's also worth noting that the USA flag code doesn't require Americans to sing along with the anthem.
Mr Trump remembered to put his hand over his heart but seemed to forget the lyrics before making a fumbling recovery.
The code adds that military personnel and veterans should salute throughout the anthem.
While Trump didn't break the flag code, he has been criticized for a similar incident in the past. According to Global News, on Memorial Day, Trump swayed back and forth while patting his chest before beginning to sing along to portions of the song. He only sang parts of the song.
