Friday morning's wind chill, which will be about minus 18 when children are supposed to be waiting at bus stops, might cause local school districts to at least call for a delay. The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. Winds gusting to 30-40 miles per hour will result in the brutally cold wind chills.
A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for all of central and northern NY from late Thursday evening right through Sunday morning. Lows will drop towards 7 degrees, with a light wind knocking wind chills close to 0. Afternoon high temperatures will climb into the single digits, with more brutal wind chills. Those clear skies will allow for another substantial drop in temperatures.
High temps are nearly irrelevant from teens early to single digits in the afternoon and staying steady or falling all afternoon.
SATURDAY | Partly sunny and continued frigid. Early next week shows another cool down with highs in the 30s on Monday and dropping temperatures through mid-week. Sunshine will give way to overcast skies late or overnight ahead of Sunday snow.
Just a couple of more days with single digit highs.
MILDER 8-DAY FORECAST!: Temps will stay above freezing for most of the 8-Day Forecast, and could even get close to 50 by mid to late week! For the start of the day any precipitation will likely fall as rain, but surface temperatures will still be below freezing due to the consistent hard freeze for the last 2 weeks.
