A lawyer for President Donald Trump on Saturday called for the Justice Department to end the special counsel investigation into ties between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, shifting to a more adversarial stance as the inquiry appeared to be intensifying.
"Does anyone think this is fair?"
"The Mueller probe should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime", Trump tweeted Saturday. The new cooperating witnesses, and subpoena, are evidence that Mueller will not be ending his investigation anytime soon, but Trump may.
And despite many in the media running interference for McCabe, reliable sources say the Inspector General Office of Professional Responsibility had "tons of stuff" on him, and it had little to do President Donald Trump and a lot more to do with "power" and "control".
In a Sunday morning tweet, Trump said that Fox & Friends had convinced him that Comey did not tell the truth when he testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Any dismissal of Mueller would have to be carried out by Rosenstein, who has publicly expressed his support for Mueller.
Trump had warned last July that if Mueller broadened his inquiry to include the finances of the Trump Organization, it would be a "violation". Comey's own memos, including one in which he says Trump encouraged him to end an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, have been provided to Mueller and are part of his investigation. Trump insists that his campaign did not collude with Russian Federation, and his legal team, namely attorney Ty Cobb, has counseled the president to cooperate with Mueller.
"Why does the Mueller team have 13 hardened Democrats, some big Crooked Hillary supporters, and Zero Republicans?"
Months earlier, Dowd was overheard by a Times reporter discussing details of a dispute inside the president's legal team over lunch at a Washington steakhouse.
Housely said Federal Bureau of Investigation agents are watching "very closely" how McCabe is handled, adding that "this isn't political, it was about how things were handled internally".
"I have tried at every juncture to be as accurate and of course truthful in all of my encounters with whoever was interested in asking questions", McCabe recently told ABC News. "Because we're a rule of law nation". I see no cause when it comes to Mr. Mueller.
White House legislative affairs director Marc Short downplayed Trump and Dowd's comments in an interview with moderator Margaret Brennan on CBS's "Face the Nation", saying neither Trump nor anyone else in the White House is suggesting not cooperating fully with the Mueller investigation.
Trump responded to the news that McCabe kept memos by tweeting that he only would have written them "to help his own agenda".
Trump has at various times this weekend lashed out at the FBI, Department of Justice and Mueller probe, prompting speculation he might call for Mueller's firing.
'Problem is that the acting head of the FBI & the person in charge of the Hillary investigation, Andrew McCabe, got $700,000 from H for wife!' Trump tweeted last July.
