Palestinian officials said Israeli soldiers on Friday fatally shot three Palestinian protesters in Gaza as thousands of Palestinians demonstrated along the border for a fifth consecutive week.

So far, 35 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire and more than 1,500 have been wounded since the protests began March 30 — a death toll that drew sharp criticism of Israel from many countries at Thursday's council meeting. "Israel's failure to consistently prosecute violations committed by members of its security forces, encourages them to use deadly force against their fellow unarmed human beings, even when they present no threat".

It said that at one point the protesters attempted a mass breach of the border fence intending to break into the Jewish state.

The human rights group in a report said Israel is carrying out a murderous assault against protesting Palestinians in Gaza Strip.

A Palestinian child died of serious wounds sustained during the protests at the Gaza borders on Friday.

The ministry said he was shot in the head by Israeli forces at the fence east of Gaza city.

Since Israel withdrew completely from Gaza in 2005, Hamas has continued to expend all their efforts to initiating and financing terror attacks against Israel, instead of actually caring for the welfare of the Gazan population.

Dozens more, including four medics, were treated for gas inhalation, as Israeli forces showered the area with tear gas canisters from behind their fortifications.

The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations says the use of civilians as human shields is reaching "epic proportions" in the Mideast, accusing Hamas in Gaza and militants in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen of hiding behind innocent men, women and children.

Israeli media cited Palestinian media as reporting that four people were injured in strikes on a position belonging to Hamas at a port in Gaza City in the northern Strip.

"Rioters approached the security fence and hurled explosive devices, grenades, firebombs and rocks and tried to light the security fence on fire", the statement said.

The rally is part of a larger movement dubbed the "Great March of Return", staged every Friday during the past six weeks.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman blamed Hamas for the teenager's death, while Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon called on the global body to condemn Hamas's use of children as a cover for their terror activities.

They will culminate on 15 May, the 70th annual commemoration of what Palestinians call the Nakba, or Catastrophe, of the displacement of hundreds of thousands of their people in the war which followed Israel's creation in 1948.

Hamas has denied the allegations.
