The Knicks reportedly intend to contact Wright to gauge his interest in replacing Jeff Hornaceck, whom they fired Thursday morning after two losing seasons.
His top assistant, Kurt Rambis, was also fired.

The good news for Knicks fans is that on Thursday both executives laid out a plan that should leave them feeling cautiously optimistic. The immediate list of candidates has featured retreads and/or those with past ties to the franchise, but the New York Daily News has reported the Knicks will reach out to Jay Wright about the job opening. A coaching legend in Europe, Blatt had a 83-40 record in his year and half with the Cavs, including a berth in the Finals in his lone full season of National Basketball Association coaching experience.
"We progressed in some areas and were lacking in others", Mills said, according to the Post. "I think his commitment from a financial resource that he's given us to player development are indicators for how important he thinks a long-term growth process is for how it is we do things".
The Knicks did not give a timeline for hiring a new coach.
