The Manhattan district attorney's office and NY police have investigated Weinstein for months, coming under growing pressure from the Time's Up movement to bring the disgraced producer to justice. He kept his gaze lowered while shuffled past a barrage of shouted questions.
Weinstein was arraigned at a New York City courthouse around 9:30am ET.
Evans confirmed to The New Yorker that she was pressing charges, telling the magazine: "At a certain point, you have to think about the greater good of humanity, of womankind".
Asked about the raft of allegations that made Weinstein a symbol of sexual misconduct, Brafman said: "Bad behavior is not on trial in this case".

His travel is going to be restricted - he'll surrender his passport. A few including Asia Argento and Rose McGowan have said they were raped. Argento and McGowan accused Harvey Weinstein of rape past year and have been at the forefront of the crusade for justice against him. With his arm held by a detective, Weinstein was brought in a back entrance of the courtroom and walked in a half-circle; he dazedly looked around the room and appeared to mouth the word "wow" as he entered.
The two officials spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss the investigation.
CNN, citing an unnamed source, reported Thursday evening that Weinstein would be charged with raping a woman and forcing another to perform oral sex on him.
Weinstein's state of mind on Friday was, according to his attorney, "As well as can be expected when you are accused of a crime that you vehemently deny having committed". A court complaint says Weinstein raped her in a Manhattan hotel in 2013.
Entertainment industry heavyweights have distanced themselves from Weinstein, once one of Hollywood's most powerful men, since the accusations became public.
His wife, fashion designer Georgina Chapman, is now divorcing him with police investigations also ongoing in London and Los Angeles. "Twenty years ago, I swore that I would right this wrong".
Italian model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez went to police, accusing Weinstein of groping and harassing her in 2015, but the district attorney ultimately decided that evidence was insufficient to prosecute.
