Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have turned to the uncompromising German coach Thomas Tuchel to finally boost the club's Champions League record after years of relative failure.
"It's with a lot of joy, pride and ambition that I join Paris Saint-Germain, one of the world's great clubs". There is extraordinary potential at PSG and it is the most exciting challenge I've had presented to me.
He'd been heavily linked with Arsenal, who are searching for Arsene Wenger's successor, and Chelsea, who are expected to part ways with Antonio Conte at the end of the season.
Tuchel signed a two-year contract with the French champion, starting in July.
Tuchel left Dortmund last year with one year left on his contract because of a strained relationship with the club's board, just after winning the German Cup.
However, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said on Saturday he was "2000 per cent" sure the Brazil global would stay at the club.
He added: "He is strongly imbued with the principles of spectacular and clinical football that have always been at the heart of German football, especially on the global scene".
He will be tasked with ensuring that they continue to dominate at home while finally making a major impression in the Champions League, having failed to go beyond the quarter-finals in the Qatar era. "It would be the right thing for the player and for the club".
However, Tuchel - a modest player whose career was cut short by a knee injury - is not yet proven as a coach at the highest level.
A renowned manager around the world, Tuchel has followed in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp, going from Mainz to Dortmund and then on to an even bigger job.
Emery, who was named coach of the year after guiding PSG to a domestic treble, will be in charge of his final French league game this weekend at Caen.
