Gorske typically eats 14 Big Macs each week, purchasing them in bulk and microwaving them at home, according to the Guinness book.
The guy who invented Big Macs, Heck, who died recently at age 98, said that he also used to have only one Mac.in a week.
"If I go for 40,000, that'll take me another 14 years", Gorske told WBAY. He said that the first time he missed eating a Big Mac was in 1982.
The last day he didn't have a Big Mac was Thanksgiving Day in 2011, when McDonald's was closed and he thought he had a burger in the freezer. USA Today reports that he has thousands of receipts, sandwich wrappers, and containers. And that in turn would work out to consuming 1.786 Big Macs every single day since the Nixon administration.
A crowd gathered to see Don Gorske eat his 30,000th Big Mac on Friday.
Don Gorske has eaten a Big Mac almost every day since May 1972. Among the other Big Mac-related facts he knows is the date that McDonald's switched from lettuce leaves to shredded lettuce - February 10, 1999.
In 2003 Ellen DeGeneres requested Gorske's cholesterol be checked. In 2006, he crossed the finish line of the San Diego marathon with his 21,387th Big Mac in hand. That day was April 27, 1988.
"Maybe I'll be eating it when I catch myself on the news", he said and smiled.
