The upcoming summit between United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will be a "historic and momentous event", Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong told Mr Trump in a telephone call on Friday (May 11).
"We had good conversations, substantive conversations that concerned deep complicated challenges", Pompeo stated about his two conferences with the North Korean chief who is understood for assassinating rivals and relations, and operating jail camps all through his nation. Suffice it to say, North Korean is now believed to have at least 60 nuclear weapons, with intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that can reach the US mainland.
Tensions on and around the peninsula had been mounting for years as Pyongyang's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes saw it subjected to increasingly strict sanctions by the UN Security Council, the US, EU, South Korea and others.
North Korea has scheduled the dismantlement of its nuclear bomb test site for sometime between 23-25 May in order to uphold its pledge to discontinue nuclear tests, the country's state media reported on Saturday a month ahead of the summit with the United States. Many traits originating before the 1950s remained shared, but while much of the art and music in South Korea over the last 65 or so years would be considered global in nature, North Korea embraced a self-sufficient philosophy and produced most of its own.
On Thursday, Trump revealed that the first-ever between a sitting USA president and a North Korean leader will take place in Singapore on June 12. They say the word "denuclearization" means something very different to Kim and to Trump.
By contrast, North Korea's GDP is less than $20bn, placing it well outside the top 100 economies.
Kim Jong-un has made clear that development is a priority.
Speculation has emerged that Trump may visit Japan to brief Abe about the outcome of his meeting with Kim in Singapore.
Mr Kang says there must be "airtight" coordination between South Korea and the USA ahead of President Donald Trump's upcoming meeting with Mr Kim. In the most recent poll, a majority (53 percent) said they approve of Trump's engagement with North Korea, while only 35 percent said they disapprove of it.
Mr Pompeo returned from Pyongyang on Thursday with three American detainees who had been released by North Korea.
The allure of economic help could be enough for Kim to accept terms to denuclearize, as Pompeo said that there's a chance that North Korea and the US could become "partners", according to the Los Angeles Times.
Pompeo added that the U.S. "will have to provide security assurances" to Kim as well. Given North Korea's extensive and hidden nuclear program, complete verification may be impossible to achieve.
Warned by Obama days after his election that the threat posed by Pyongyang could define his presidency, Trump answered Kim's threats with bellicose warnings of his own and rallied an global pressure campaign against North Korea.
