Darren Till missed weight by 3.5 pounds for his main event welterweight showdown with Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, but will remain in the fight after agreeing to forfeit 30-percent of his fight purse.
Thompson came to terms with Till yesterday, but the local hero needed to weigh in again by 1pm on Sunday, just hours before the main event was set to go down at the Echo Arena.
Till has made no secret of the fact that he endures one of the more significant weight cuts when he prepares to fight and, for the second time in the UFC, the Liverpool welterweight failed to make weight on Saturday morning.
After all, Till did miss weight, and he didn't record the type of victory that left the masses calling for him to fight the champ, Tyron Woodley.
Despite achieving a life goal of his to sell out an arena in his home city, the undefeated fighter admitted it wasn't all ideal despite a victory after missing weight by 3.5 pounds on Saturday. You lose. Same with the battle with the scales. Because I'm ashamed. I am a professional, and I'm a big guy for the weight, and I've got to get it more under control.
"I knew it was going to be a close fight, but I thought I had edged it out", said Thompson. I only had five kilos (11 pounds) to go. I usually get up there to 185, 186.
"He's 25, he's super tight at the weight, just get him to the belt soon as fast as you can because you could have a three-weight world champion" Bellew told BT Sport. I've got my family, I've got some friends coming, and I'm gonna walk out there in that arena and they're gonna be booing me, but I'm gonna walk out with a smile on my face. We'll see how it goes. Perry was critical of his performance against Till and Medeiros has never met an opponent he didn't want to draw into a scrap, so either way, you end up with a rowdy, game fighter charging in to see if they can't score the biggest win of their career. "The ball's in their court".
