The event will begin with a partial eclipse till about 7.30 p.m. UTC, before the skies are graced with the especially long total eclipse.
On July 27, 2018, a total lunar eclipse will be visible from South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. When the moon travels through the darkest region of Earth's shadow-the "umbra"-it glows a reddish-orange colour, hence the term "blood moon".
The upcoming blood moon is not only of interest to astronomers and star-gazers, however. The entire eclipse will be visible from Africa, the Middle East and countries in central Asia.
"As an ardent skywatcher who derives much pleasure from handsome events like lunar eclipses, it saddens me that there are "prophets of doom" in the world who view these life-enriching events as portents of disaster", Geoffrey Gaherty, a writer for Starry Night Education, told the publication. Including that penumbral time, the eclipse will last for 3 hours and 55 minutes.
The blood moon will appear on July 27 and 28, 2018, and will last for one hour and 43 minutes, making it the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century so far.
"Opposition is a big milestone each year for observing the ringed planet Saturn, or any superior planet (planet orbiting the sun outside Earth's orbit)", EarthSky.org reports. The strawberry moon happens in June, when strawberries are ripe for picking. Think of it as a "full Saturn", in the same way the moon is full when the sun lights up the entire disc.
The fears hinge around a line in the Book of Joel 2:30-31 that says: 'And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke'. "That [the middle] gets a longer-duration eclipse", he said.
