One resident saw a woman walking her dogs near the park, and then later, three dogs were found wandering alone, one of which was injured. The dogs are now in the possession of the Broward county animal care and adoption.
Officials said an airboat was deployed in the lake throughout the night, and the search continued at sunrise.
Jim Borrelli, a friend of Matsuki, said she and her husband have walked their dogs in the park previously.
Meanwhile, "her dogs won't leave the pond", Engle said.
Fatal alligator attacks are rare. Police want to send a team of divers into the pond to look for the woman, but that can not happen until the alligator has been removed from the water.
Meanwhile, at least one news source reported that a witness had seen the woman being dragged into the 500,000-square-foot lake, although police could not confirm that they received that information from a witness.
Engle said one of the dogs also was bitten by the alligator.
Never swim outside of posted safe swimming areas or in water that may have alligators.
It's illegal to feed alligators in Florida.
