Likely riding high following his team's championship victory Friday night, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr reportedly dished a serious compliment to opposing player LeBron James, in a comparison to National Basketball Association great Michael Jordan.
For LeBron James, it is a sixth career defeat in the NBA Finals, with the latest loss a disappointing way to finish an otherwise outstanding season from a personal point of view. And there may be more titles in their future.
Where LeBron enters next season will likely be determined within the next six weeks.
James' first trip to an NBA Finals was one to forget. Barely played that is.
Klay Thompson, who did not score in the first half, scored 10 points to lead Golden State to an 86-65 lead after three quarters. In his ninth Finals he went out with a whimper and not a bang. I just saw something and I thought, yeah we got this.
James, playing his eighth consecutive finals, scored 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds and passed off eight assists on Friday but fell to 3-6 in the finals for his career. And it's no secret that Golden State is the superior team with more overall talent and depth.
"Obviously, we haven't had many playmakers throughout the course of the season". It's a nine-month grind. going through this four years in a row, it's a major grind. Hence, the smattering of boos.
"I let the emotions get the best of me, and pretty much played the last three games with a broken hand", LeBron told reporters.
"Yeah, this was the hardest because of the cumulative wear and tear, emotionally more so than physically", Kerr said. According to Elias, Durant became the fifth player to produce a 20-point triple-double in his team's Finals-clinching victory. He successfully converted 52.6 percent of his field goal attempts and 40.9 percent from behind the arc.
Fans chanted "M-V-P" to James in the final minutes, sensing his possible exit again.
"I hope he stays". Curry, who was terrible in Game 3, answered with a classic Steph Curry performance in the clincher. He scored 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting while accumulating 12 rebounds and 10 assists in almost 38 minutes of action.
"It's just about the journey, all season", Durant said.
If he does become an unrestricted free agent, Cleveland can offer him a larger contract than any other team with a five-year, $209 million supermax offer.
"When you feel like you are really good at your craft, it's always great to be around other great minds and other great ballplayers", James said. "They're very different, but however you want to rank them, they're right there together".
