A Naperville, Illinois, police officer is receiving viral attention after his department released jarring dashcam footage showing him stopping his patrol auto on a busy highway last month to rescue a toddler running on the side of the highway.
Sergeant Anthony Mannino received the Naperville Police Department's life saving award Thursday because of a heroic act that was caught on video.
The sergeant pulled over and parked his squad vehicle to block traffic in the lane.
Sgt. Anthony Mannino was on patrol when he saw the child running on the side of Route 59, so he used his patrol vehicle to block traffic.
During the chase, a large truck could be seen passing within a few feet of the child at a high rate of speed.
"I have twin boys", he said. Mannino then tells dispatchers he would begin looking for the boy's parents.
Police said the boy had "escaped his mother's watchful eye" at home and was not hurt in the incident.
The boy's mother arrived moments after Mannino saved him, WGN reports.
