Earlier today, MI basketball coach John Beilein withdrew his name from consideration for the Pistons job.
Beilein was a candidate for the Detroit Pistons' head-coaching vacancy, having twice met with the organization, including an interview in Detroit as recently as last Thursday.
On Wednesday, Michigan head coach John Beilein announced on Twitter that he will continue coaching the Wolverines next season. A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press earlier this month Beilein interviewed with the Detroit.
A source tells The Athletic that Beilein and the school have almost finalized a two-year extension on his previous three-year contract. He has also led the Wolverines to a couple of National Title games - although he is still looking for his first win in those games. Beilein, the program's winningest coach, has guided UM to two title game appearances.
John Beilein is staying at MI.
If Detroit passes on all of those options, perhaps they should consider a couple of familiar faces: former Pistons Isiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer.
"We are thrilled that John Beilein will be our coach now and into the future", athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement.
