And to celebrate the occasion, Epic's epic battle royale shooter is getting a sizeable patch update - alongside a number of birthday challenges for the next. fortnight.
One challenge in particular tasks players with dancing in front of birthday cakes. The birthday cake event begins TODAY (July 24) and will run until Tuesday August 7, for a total of three weeks. As of right now, it is unknown how long the birthday event and playground will be available.
Each of the challenges unlocks cosmetic items, including a birthday cake-themed character skin, a new spray and a birthday-themed backpack called "back bling". In fact, its popularity has inspired Epic Games to create a version that will be a permanent game mode, but while fans wait for that iteration, they will get another chance to try out the limited-time Playground Mode when it returns on July 25th.
For those unaware of what this oddly-named consumable does, it essentially grants 1 HP and 1 Shield per second, for 25 seconds, essentially giving you a 25 HP and 25 Shield boost over time.
A list of new birthday challenges awaits gamers once they log into Fortnite. It's best to check the accompanying image with the suggestion (which we've included below) to get a better picture.
You'll also be able to drive the game's new golf carts in Playground Mode, and they're guaranteed to spawn in their usual locations.
Eagle-eyed players will also notice that the Battlebus and Supply Drops have been decorated to celebrate the game. Official details are scarce, but apparently Tactics Showdown will put a cap on the amount of resources and ammunition players can carry, and will make it so player-built structures can be destroyed more easily. Curiously, Fortnite started out as just Save the World before it jumped aboard the battle royale hype train and rode it all the way to the bank.
