A man wanted for questioning in the murder of a college student shot three police officers in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday during a series of firefights that began at a motel and ended with his death when he bolted from a house with his rifle blazing, authorities said.
The attack on the two undercover officers started at a motel in east Kansas City.
The suspect then drove off in a vehicle with another person inside - that person was later taken into custody.
The suspect then holed up in an unoccupied house, police said. The suspect who was shot and killed by police was identified Monday by authorities as Marlin Mack, 25.
Koppu, a student at University of Missouri-Kansas City, was shot on July 6 during an armed robbery at J's Fish and Chicken Market. A third officer was hit by gunfire and also in stable condition. But Subramanian says many in the local community do not trust the press in India because they tend to sensationalize and misstate facts.
Koppu, from Telangana, was a software engineer who came to the U.S. in January to pursue his master's degree. The suspect in those shootings is dead.
"We want to protect as many people as we can from the gunfire", Becchina said.
The three officers' wounds were not life-threatening.
The gunman remained at large until just before 1 p.m. when police focused their efforts on the area of 30th and Topping Avenue.
Investigators have not released the name of the officers who were shot at this point or described their injuries.
