Netflix introduced Smart Downloads this week, a feature that will keep you mobile watchers happy when you're done binging the latest episode of whatever program you're into right now. "W$3 hen it comes to Netflix, the faster you can get to the next episode you want to watch, the better", Johnson wrote. Smart Downloads will be particularly useful for users in developing markets, where many smartphones are entry-level devices with less storage available.
"Downloading is a very manual process today", Netflix director of product innovation Cameron Johnson told BuzzFeed News. Automatic downloads will only occur when the user is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
The following video shows you Smart Downloads at work, while this help page should provide more information on how to make it work on your mobile device.
Smart Downloads deletes Season 1, Episode 1, and automatically downloads Season 1, Episode 4.
Netflix wants to start keeping your downloads fresh for you. However, that means you'll also have to do not forget to manually delete the episodes you've watched once you're done with them. That's right, the feature is coming to Android smartphones and tablets first. Again, Smart Downloads will immediately delete downloaded episodes once users are already finished watching all of them. It also could then automatically download the first episode of the next season when it airs, which could either be convenient or annoying, depending on how you look at it.
Really good news for people that watch Netflix while travelling.
