With a touch-sensitive screen, the Surface Pro has a 3: 2 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1800x1200 pixels. The tablet runs on an Intel Pentium 4415Y dual-core processor, with a base clock frequency of 1.6 GHz, a tdp of 6W and associated Intel HD Graphics 615. The new 10-inch tablet is available now for pre-order in the US and several other countries and is priced competitively to the iPad Mini, with a $399 price tag for the 64-GB storage option, and $549 for a 128-GB version.
Today, the Redmond, Wash. -based company continued its streak of education announcements with the launch of the Surface Go, a version of the hybrid tablet that Microsoft aims to sell to schools.
Naturally, and disappointingly, none of these options include the newly-designed Type Cover or tried-and-true Surface Pen in the box.
Surface Go sounds great, but depending on what you're looking for, the devil is definitely in the details.
The Surface Go's other hardware elements are very typical of Microsoft's Surface series as well. Attaching a keyboard adds 0.5 pounds to the Surface's weight. But the biggest difference is the price: the Surface Go starts at £380 in the United Kingdom and $399 in the USA, which is half the price of the cheapest Surface Pro tablet. If both are true, the product could be unveiled on July 10, and then become available for pre-order on the 13th. LTE variants of the Surface Go should come to the market at a later date.
For typing, you'll still need to buy a type cover separately.
On a portable the port choice is crucial and Microsoft has provided USB-C 3.1 for data, video, and charging; a headphone jack; and a MicroSD card reader - as well as the Surface Connect for charging and docking.
A keyboard case with a trackpad will go on sale at the same time for between $99 and $129, depending on the color, and a Bluetooth mouse costs $34.99.
There's one other way the Surface Go stands out versus the iPad. However, anyone wanting a little more oomph can hand over $549 and get 128GB of SSD storage and 8GB of RAM which may make this a more capable device. The big news will probably drop tomorrow, most likely in the A.M. So, what's on deck for the Surface line?
The Surface is bundled with their signature built-in kickstand with unlimited positions, a front-facing camera with facial recognition login, and Microsoft's proprietary Surface Connector port for charging and connecting to a desktop dock. We've played Minecraft on the Surface Go with not a dip in frame rate. Users can switch to regular Windows 10 Home, which doesn't have that limit, for free.
