Grant's free agency had been a significant question given the luxury tax cost associated with bringing him back if George also committed.
Instead, George agreed to a four-year deal with the Thunder with a player option for the final year, committing to be in OKC for at least three more years and earning $137 million in the process. The Thunder spent the year recruiting George to sign up long-term, beginning with fans welcoming him at the airport and a welcome party organized a day after.
The first year after Durant left, Westbrook carried the team on his back and managed to win the league MVP.
All the while, though, George continued to profess his love for the Lakers. He spent seven seasons in IN before he was traded to Oklahoma City in exchange for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis in July 2017.
Beyond that, the Thunder would likely have to trade rotation players to save money next season. Given the savings the Thunder would get from doing so, it also could put them in a position to retain free agent forward Jerami Grant, and potentially add another helpful piece in free agency.
The possibility of Paul George teaming up with LeBron James is no more.
Despite the various rumours about his future, it's been made clear to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that George had in fact informed the Thunder well in advance about his intentions to remain with the team.
George is a good National Basketball Association player.
On Tuesday night, the first of a three-part ESPN series called "Paul George: My Journey" aired and, in it, George discussed his career path to date and the potential free agency that awaits him in mere days.
"I haven't been in a position to be a free agent or know what that is like and then to have the chance to go where you want to go".
In 79 games last season, George averaged 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and two steals per game in 36.6 minutes per game.
The success of the Thunder's starting five last season has been a point in favor of Anthony's value to the team.
