Excitement reached fever pitch among a number of famous football fans, with the cast of West End musical Hamilton changing one of their songs to sing Three Lions.
The song, which contains the famous lyrics "football's coming home", is usually resurrected around most global tournaments in support of England and has been spontaneously sang by fans up and down the country during the past month.
Talk about spreading the England cheer on the other side of the pond!
The song, originally by the Lightning Seeds & the comedy duo of Baddiel & Skinner, was initially a Euro 96 song.
Green Day's 2008 hit single American Idiot could also be in line for a return to the chart following an online campaign to get it to number one in the week that US President Donald Trump makes his first state visit to the United Kingdom on Friday.
This was also the first U17 trophy for England in four appearances.
If anybody's going to accurately gauge whether football is coming home or not, it's got to be Baddiel and Skinner themselves.
"Right! I've got till 14:00 to knacker the kids out".
But what's that tune I can hear England fans singing during this World Cup?
"Not just the players around the camp, the media, the pundits, I think everyone genuinely wants him to do well and that's as much to do with the man as it is to do with England being their country".
"I'm a positive coach, a positive manager, so you take a lot of things from it".
