Variety's Justin Kroll is reporting that Miles Teller has been cast in Top Gun: Maverick opposite Tom Cruise as the son of Maverick's deceased best friend Goose. In case you don't remember Top Gun-go rewatch it, already-Goose, played by Anthony Edwards, was Maverick's co-pilot, though he died during the events of the film.
Considering Maverick blames himself for Goose's death, it's safe to assume his reconciliation with the man's child will be an emotional one. The new movie is set in the world of drone warfare and explores the end of the dogfighting era that was the center of the original film. Tom Cruise is returning to his role as Maverick three decades later in the Top Gun sequel that is named after his character. Although the title Top Gun: Maverick floated around briefly, the film is now without an official title.
Miles Teller is feeling the need... the need for speed! Now, it appears that Goose's son will be joining the sequel.
Powell joked about losing the role to Teller on Twitter.
"Top Gun: Maverick" will be directed by Joe Kosinksi and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer - who also produced the original film. Maybe, I'll leave one.
Teller was announced Tuesday as the co-star opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick. Two for symmetry. Okay, the posters are staying, ' Glen tweeted along with a link to the article.
