It's a transfer which is looking more and more exciting for Arsenal fans with each passing day.
The Argentine has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates as new boss Unai Emery desperately tries to add quality to an underperforming squad.
Gomes is valued at £30m in Spain, which is more than Arsenal can afford given they're working to a very strict budget.
Goal recently revealed that the Gunners will sign Torreira, who has started in Uruguay's last two World Cup games, from Sampdoria once the midfielder's campaign in Russian Federation is over. Lucas Torreira's father told Fox Sports Argentina.
"It is as good as a fact that Lucas will join Arsenal".
'The deal is virtually done and only the arrival of Lucas is remaining.
"Arsenal offered to do the medical examinations in Russian Federation but we decided against it because we felt it's inconvenient, it is not the right time".
According to a report from respected football expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal are keen on signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes this summer, but the Gunners should be wary of bringing the Portugal worldwide to the Emirates.
"It's not the right time".
"But there's a whole programme getting readied for Lucas". Torreira might not be the world-class midfielder the Gunners really need, but he's an exciting prospect and at 22 years old there's still plenty of room for growth.
