One of those new lawyers is Samantha Bley DeJean, and she wrote the two-page brief that she later filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Pitt's attorney Lance Spiegel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In California, child support is decided between the parents, so it's unclear what "meaningful" means in the context of two ridiculously wealthy celebrities - especially when your kids are so kitted out in designer brands that an average outfit costs the same as a university degree.
The judge warned Jolie directly, "If the minor children remain closed down to their father and depending on the circumstances surrounding this condition, it may result in a reduction of the time they spend with [Jolie] and may result in the Court ordering primary physical custody to [Pitt]".
It is unknown at this time what - if any - informal agreement Jolie and Pitt had arrived at prior to this filing.
"Given that the informal arrangements around the payment of the children's expense has not been regularly sustained by Respondent for over a year and a half, petitioner intends to file an RFO for the establishment of a retroactive child support order", the court documents read.
"It's just been the hardest time, and we're just kind of coming up for air", she told the magazine, shortly after moving into a $25 million, six-bedroom, 10-bathroom home with her children in the Los Angeles neighborhood Los Feliz. Her rep also released a statement explaining why she is asking for child support. As part of the agreement, Jolie was required to provide Pitt with each of the children's cell phone numbers so that he could call them directly.
Pitt and Jolie have three sons and three daughters, ages 17 and under.
Meanwhile, Jolie is also urging the judge to issue a final divorce decree this year to legally restore her single status, reports TMZ. "She's not quitting now or in the future".
A spokesperson for Jolie, Mindy Nyby, however, later denied the rumors, telling People, "The TMZ story is not true".
