The inclusion of Simon and fellow vampire hunter Richter Belmont as playable characters in Ultimate was the first of many reveals packed into the half-hour Direct presentation, hosted by Smash series creator Masahiro Sakurai.
The big baddie of the Donkey Kong Country series finally arrives in Smash, and he looks like he'll play with all the same madcap unpredictability of his evil machinations on Donkey Kong Island. He attacks with a blunderbuss that can fire cannonballs at opponents, and throws his crown, which acts like a boomerang. Fire Emblem's Chrom will be an echo of Lucina, whilst Dark Samus will echo Samus. Ultimate. But fans are showing concern because it came at a great cost - the "death" of beloved Mario universe character Luigi.
Ditto isn't the only new Pokemon coming to Super Smash Bros. You can play music while the Switch is in sleep mode, and for the first time in the Smash Bros. series, you can create your own song playlists.
The game will feature 103 stages, or 100 if Battlefield/Big Battlefield/Final Destination are excluded, and all stages are unlocked from the start.
Konami stars have appeared as playable character in the cross-over fighting series before, most notably Snake from the Metal Gear Solid franchise, and Mr Belmont will be welcome with open arms.
An excellent new stage showcased is New Donk City Hall.

A lot of characters have also been added to the game as assist trophies, which are considered as a sort of special guest appearance.
What's Bloody Tears and Monster Dance, you may ask?
He's been widely requested from Smash players for quite a while, but Nintendo waited for their Super Smash Bros. But Sakurai's narration (well, the English translation of his narration) specifically mentioned "a mysterious mode" that Nintendo isn't ready to talk about yet (the fuzzy one in the picture above).
The main menu has a mysterious mode yet to be revealed, and a righthand notification bar.
Stamina battle is a full mode, joining time and stock.
Of course, there will also be a Tourney mode in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but most veterans probably expected that. "Mankind ill needs a savior such as you". You can find all of it in the Nintendo Direct video above.
But sadly, on August 8, 2018, Luigi passed away. Luigi, who's been putting the "bro" in Marios Bros. for over three decades, is dead. Fans were understandably concerned. The official Nintendo UK twitter account stated that all 5 fighters will receive amiibo in the future. I'm pretty sure that makes him undead, one of the things he fears most in this terrifying world.
