The incoming leadership of Pakistan led by former cricketer Imran Khan will give priority to peace between Islamabad and its neighbours, High Commissioner of Pakistan Sohail Mahmood said while celebrating the country's Independence Day on Tuesday.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were held in the provincial capitals as well as district headquarters.
People across the country flocked to stalls that lined up streets to purchase national flags in different sizes, t-shirts, badges and other merchandise to display their national pride.
"This is the day when our hopes materialise", said President Mamnoon.
"It is a reminder that the way this country had come into being with the people's will, in the same manner, the decisions regarding its fate will be made through the vote", he said, adding that the Pakistani nation had stamped this very principle on July 25.
In Lahore, the main ceremony of the Day was held at Hazoori Bagh in which the Caretaker Chief Minister Dr. Hassan Askari hoisted the national flag. "On August 14, our resolve is further renewed. Our country is a blessing for us".
A change of guard ceremony was also held at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam.
