Kante has been offered a new five-year contract reportedly worth a club-record £290,000 a week, nearly double his current salary of £150,000. Kante, then, went on to play a pivotal part in leading France to their second World Cup triumph this summer in Russian Federation. The reigning Ligue 1 champions are in the market for a new midfielder following the retirement of Thiago Motta and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Adrien Rabiot.
Mourinho confirmed earlier this week that he handed the club a list of five top transfer targets at the start of the summer, but Brazilian attacking star Fred is the only big-name arrival so far.
Interestingly the Times state that the deal on the table would be for five years, nearly doubling Kante's existing wages and taking him clear of current top earner Eden Hazard, who is now on £220,000-a-week. This is why new Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, doesn't want to lose him.
"So there is no comment on N'Golo Kante, of course, not for the transfer window".
Although wage information is not made public in football (unlike in most other professional sports ), we have it on good authority that Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas are now Chelsea's two highest paid players, with both around £200,000 per week.
