There was tension after Lazio conceded a stoppage-time equaliser against Monza, as the visiting fans had an argument with the players, particularly singling out Matteo Guendouzi and Adam Marusic.
The Aquile had twice been in front at the U-Power Stadium this evening with goals from Ciro Immobile and Matias Vecino, but Milan Djuric bagged a brace to complete the comeback, drawing 2-2 in stoppages.
There had already been tension on the pitch with a scuffle breaking out between players, particularly Taty Castellanos and Danilo Cataldi, with Monza opponents.
Lazio tension with ultras
However, the situation after the final whistle was more concerning and unusual, as the Lazio squad went over to salute the visiting ultras and received insults for their performance.
It was difficult to tell precisely what they were saying, but it seems as if Guendouzi perhaps responded to the criticism and that made the ultras even more irate.
His teammates appeared to be trying to defend the France international, perhaps pointing out he is new to Italian football and unaccustomed to this kind of ‘lecture’ from the fans.
DAZN explain that Guendouzi had already gone towards the locker room and had to be called back by the rest of the squad.
The ‘lecture’ lasted for a good 15 minutes and Marusic seemed to react angrily to some of the things said to him by fans too.
