Jose Mourinho insists he did ‘great’ work at Roma before he was sacked and wants to get back to work immediately, but must not ‘make the wrong decision.’
The Special One was fired on January 16, after months of discussions over whether or not the club was going to extend his contract.
It proved a masterstroke, because replacement Daniele De Rossi has gone from strength to strength in Serie A and the Europa League, crushing Brighton and Hove Albion 4-0 on Thursday.
“Roma was great, as we had two European Finals in two years, and that’s hard in a club that never did it,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“Now I have to wait for the right possibility. I want to work tomorrow if possible, but I don’t want to make the wrong decision.”
He won the Conference League, the first ever UEFA tournament for Roma, and then reached the Europa League Final, losing on penalties to Sevilla.
Mourinho is enjoying his free time, spending the last few days attending the Egypt Cup final, the Anthony Joshua vs. Frances Ngannou boxing match in Saudi Arabia and the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Jeddah.
A return to Serie A seems improbable at this point, although Napoli were mentioned as showing interest.
