La Gazzetta dello Sport was extremely harsh on an ’embarrassing’ Juventus who qualified for the Champions League despite a 1-1 home draw against already relegated Salernitana.
Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus have qualified for the 2024-25 Champions League despite some highly disappointing results in the second part of the campaign, including a 1-1 draw against Salernitana in Turin on Sunday.
Monday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, on page six, analysed their performance against Salernitana, and journalist Sebastiano Vernazza in Turin had no kind words for the Bianconeri and their coach.
Juventus have earned only 15 points in the last 15 matches, and overall, they collected 13 draws in 36 Serie A matches this season.
Italian newspaper highlights stats showing ‘mediocrity’ of ’embarrassing’ Juventus
“An abnormal number that shows the Juventus mediocrity,” wrote the Italian journalist.
“Juventus players are much stronger than Salernitana’s but Stefano Colantuono’s side was more organised and closed the technical gap. The problem is that Juventus don’t play well. Actually, they don’t play at all, and all the responsibility entirely lies with Max Allegri.
“Juventus entered the pitch with arrogance, almost like the victory was due. The build-up was pathetic. Juventus almost didn’t know what to do with the ball. It was embarrassing,” concluded Vernazza.
Allegri admitted after the Salernitana match that the first half was “bad” and urged his players to focus on Wednesday’s Coppa Italia Final, the final chance for the Bianconeri to avoid completing a third consecutive season empty-handed.
