The start of the European Championships 2024 is getting closer and closer. On June 14, the tournament will finally begin with host nation Germany meeting Scotland in Munich. But how many chances to Italy have to defend their champion status?

Back in 2021, Italy didn’t start the tournament as one of the top favourites to win it. Countries like Belgium, England, France, Spain, and Germany were considered on a higher level, so the Azzurri were mentioned after those by experts and bookmakers.

But we all know that this special tournament, postponed by a year due to the COVID pandemic, represented the highest moment for Italian football since the 2006 World Cup victory, so nearly 20 years. Tough matches, incredible performances, and strong nerves led the team to the Final. Even England could not stop Italy, and perhaps the famous English song ‘Football is coming home’ was also an additional motivation to the team. The spirit inside the team was just marvellous and one of the huge reasons for the surprising success.

Many changes since EURO 2021

To say that a couple of things have changed since is an understatement. The biggest change is surely the coach. Roberto Mancini suddenly left the Italian team in 2023 and, of course, Mancio had played a key role at the Euros only two years earlier. A few weeks later, the ex-striker became the new coach of the Saudi Arabian national team. But anyway, since then, Luciano Spalletti has been in charge, and the team has only lost one match against England. The results are pretty good, and the performances are stable. Spalletti is not only highly motivated, but he also wants to win EURO 2024.

Of course, the team itself has changed, too. Giorgio Chiellini, one of the most important players in 2021, has retired. His aura and winning mentality on and off the pitch have definitely been missed since then, although the team is doing a good job. The former centre-back is a legend nobody will forget or can completely replace. His defensive partner, Bonucci, is still playing, but has never been involved under Spalletti, so the Azzurri’s backline will entirely change.

His transfers to Union Berlin and Fenerbahce this season have not worked out, and the experienced defender has no chance of being involved in Euro 2024 this summer. Overall, only nine or ten players from the 2021 squad will try to defend the title in Germany next month. This means that more than half of the team will change.

Italy could benefit from its surroundings and circumstances

Everything comes to an end, and, of course, the career of some true legends, too. But some other good players with high qualities will have their chance and could prove themselves. External factors may help the Azzurri as well. After all, Italy won the World Cup in Germany in 2006 also thanks to the support from the many Italians living in the country.

“In such tournaments, it’s not only about the coach, the squad, and just their qualities on the pitch. It’s also about the circumstances,” argues Florian Först from the football and betting portal Kickfieber.de.

“Italy has many supporters in Germany, which can create a unique atmosphere with fans from Italy. Also, everyone remembers the last tournament in Germany pretty well, which can give a nice boost in motivation. Last but not least, Italy isn’t named one of the favourites to win the title. They can play without having too much pressure on their shoulders since nobody is expecting the title defence.”

Other experts and betting sites share the same opinion about Italy’s chances of winning EURO 2024. Bookmakers like Bet365, for example, have them in position six of the favourites only, so the pressure is clearly with England, France, and Germany in this tournament. But anyway, Italy have proven to be good in its role as an ‘outsider,’ and maybe we will see another miracle this summer. It definitely can’t be ruled out.

Analyzing the rise of defensive talents in Serie A in 2023-24 https://football-italia.net/serie-a-defensive-talents-2023-24-analysis/ Fri, 10 May 2024 10:20:50 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=806758

This season, Serie A has witnessed a remarkable rise in defensive talents, who have influenced team strategies and league dynamics. Notably, betting enthusiasts and analysts have turned their attention to these emerging stars, enhancing engagement with platforms like 1x bet, where fans can follow and predict outcomes based on these players’ performances.

The Emergence of Key Defenders

Certain players have distinguished themselves this season with exceptional performances. For instance, new talents have emerged, showcasing their prowess in crucial matches with tackles, interceptions, and leadership in high-pressure situations. Their ability to read the game and execute strategic defensive plays has been central to their teams’ successes.

Alessandro Bastoni (Inter)

The Italy international has reinforced his status as one of the best defenders in Europe and probably the best centre-back in Italy. A regular starter in the Nerazzurri’s title-winning campaign, Bastoni has showcased impressive ability with and without the ball. Simone Inzaghi’s men have been building several goal-scoring opportunities thanks to Bastoni’s forward runs and Italy fans are looking forward to seeing him at the Euros with Italy.

Riccardo Calafiori (Bologna)

Probably the most surprising defender in Serie A this season. The product of Roma academy joined Bologna for just €4m from Basel last summer and has become one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe with clubs like Juventus and Tottenham already linked with securing his signature. He started the season as a left-back but has quickly evolved into a reliable centre-back under Thiago Motta and the 21-year-old now dreams of being included in the Italy squad for the upcoming Euros.

Gleison Bremer (Juventus)

Bremer has continued to impress with his robust defending and aerial prowess. His ability to intercept and tackle has been pivotal in Juventus’s campaign, maintaining a solid defence against Serie A’s top strikers. It’s no coincidence that he’s been monitored by several clubs in Europe, including Manchester United, who could pay up to €60m to secure his signature in the summer.

Tactical Evolution in Serie A

Shifts in Defensive Strategies

These defenders’ performances have directly influenced their teams’ league standings. Clubs with stronger defences have shown better overall performance and resilience in tight games, indicating a direct correlation between a robust defence and league success.

Serie A teams are increasingly adopting more sophisticated defensive setups, integrating flexibility with traditional defensive strength. This tactical evolution is partly due to the rise of versatile defenders who can adapt to various playing styles and formations.

Comparison with Previous Seasons

The current campaign clearly enhances defensive tactics compared to previous seasons, with teams being better organized and more difficult to break down. This evolution is a direct result of the league’s focus on nurturing defensive talents, which has elevated the tactical complexity and competitiveness of Serie A.

Conclusion

The rise of defensive talents in Serie A this season has significantly impacted the league’s dynamics. It has not only brought a fresh wave of excitement and tactical innovation but also highlighted the importance of defence in shaping the outcomes of football matches. As these players continue to develop, the future seasons promise even more thrilling defensive displays, setting a new standard for excellence in Italian football.

In conclusion, the progression of Serie A‘s defensive capabilities is a testament to the league’s evolving nature and its continuous adaptation to modern football’s demands. This trend underscores the strategic depth that defences bring to the game, proving that a solid backline is as crucial as a potent attack.

Can Italy legend Cannavaro avoid Udinese’s Serie A relegation? https://football-italia.net/can-italy-legend-cannavaro-avoid-udineses-serie-a-relegation/ Thu, 02 May 2024 08:48:31 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=804453

Fabio Cannavaro aims to bolster Udinese‘s Serie A status with disciplined leadership and tactical understanding and his focus on young talents will be crucial.

Azzurri legend Cannavaro is the man chosen by Udinese for the final part of the season after the inevitable sacking of Gabriele Cioffi. The ex-defender had replaced Andrea Sottil halfway through the 2023-24 campaign, but the task for Cannavaro will be challenging. An impressive playing career, culminating in a 2006 World Cup win with Italy and a Ballon d’Or, places Cannavaro under enormous pressure as he embarks on his first Serie A appointment as a coach.

Initial cues of a style of leadership to be one of strict discipline, Cannavaro will be relying on some Udinese youngsters, including Lazar Samardzic, to avoid the Bianconeri’s relegation. Although the exact tactics he will deploy are yet to be entirely fleshed out, if his reputation is anything to go by, it is fair to imagine the ex-defender primarily keeping a tight defence. With Gerard Deulofeu, Florian Thauvin and Sandi Lovric injured, Lorenzo Lucca will have all the pressure on his shoulders in attack and Cannavaro will be tasked with boosting the Bianconeri’s options up front.

Udinese Coaching Transition: A Journey from Cioffi to Cannavaro

Gabriele Cioffi’s brief stint with Udinese was marked by a direct and pragmatic tactical approach that rarely changed regardless of the opposition. His reign at Udinese was marked by struggles to keep the lead and predictability in attacking moves. A brief spell could not oversee any strategic overhaul or major improvement in outcomes, hence exposing the team to a dangerous spot near the relegation zone.

Cannavaro won’t have enough time to deploy a clear tactical identity for Udinese, as the primary target will be to get results and enough points to avoid Serie B relegation. If he completes the job, then the next season will be one for him to develop his idea of football and prepare the club for a successful long-term future.

Are you interested in the chances of Udinese in their upcoming matches under Cannavaro? All you need to do is head over to the betting portal Passagen and get involved with the secure betting operators to do so.

Udinese’s Transfer Window Activities from a Strategic Perspective

Udinese have been one of the best clubs in Italy when it comes to scouting and player trading, but things haven’t quite worked out for the Bianconeri over the last few years. Former defender Federico Balzaretti was appointed as a sporting director last summer, but Tuttosport has recently claimed that the ex-Roma and Juventus man will leave at the end of the season. Lazar Samardzic was expected to leave last summer. Eventually, he remained in Friuli, and his price tag will dramatically lower in the summer, especially if the Bianconeri go down to Serie B. It would be a huge blow to Udinese who generally operate on a low-risk financial approach. The strategy hinges on sustainability and dictates their transfer policies and generally all operational decisions.

The Road Ahead: Key Fixtures and the Implications for Udinese

Cannavaro picked up an impressive away draw at Bologna in his first entire match in charge of Udinese, but his debut was a nightmare. He lost to Roma in a rescheduled fixture against Roma, with only the final 18 minutes plus add-ons being played.

Their next Serie A match is against Napoli, but Udinese’s fate will probably be determined by the final three games against direct opponents Lecce (away), Empoli (home) and Frosinone (away). Udinese are currently in the drop zone, two points below Empoli, Frosinone and Verona and just four behind Cagliari. Anything can still happen in the final month of action in Serie A, but despite a poor position in the table, games against direct opponents mean Cannavaro and their men have the fate in their hands. A club that was once accustomed to playing in European competitions and even in the Champions League will be desperate to avoid a season in Serie B, hoping to return to greatness over the next few years.

Baggio and Allegri have similar views on the state of Italian football https://football-italia.net/baggio-and-allegri-have-similar-views-on-the-state-of-italian-football/ Wed, 01 May 2024 09:12:49 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=804361

Recent interviews released by Roberto Baggio and Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri show that the Italian football personalities have a similar view on the state of the game in the country.

Baggio is widely seen as one the most iconic Italian footballers of all time and probably the most technically gifted the country has ever had. The Divin Codino set a new standard for players in the Peninsula and asked why Italy is no longer able to produce footballers of his talent, he replied: “I believe that today’s young Italians are missing the street, the one I grew up on. All we needed were two shirts and the goal was there. In those realities, you develop a technical background that you then carry with you throughout your life.

“Today, we fear that our children will encounter difficulties, but they are precisely those that shape you. There is too much pressure. The kids must be left alone; they must be able to make their own journey.”

Italy is also struggling to develop young players from the lower divisions, which is why clubs like Juventus and Atalanta, who Milan will soon follow have established their U23 squads playing in Italy’s Serie C, the country’s third division. Juventus and Atalanta’s B squads have reached the playoffs this season, and emerging young players can be seen in the third division with plenty of betting options through the best online casinos in Italy, according to Erik King.

Ironically, even Allegri, who has launched many emerging Juventus talents in the first team over the last few years, shares the same view as Baggio. Actually, the 56-year-old has been repeating the same thing for a few years.

“Kids don’t play on the street anymore because society has changed and there aren’t spaces any more,” Allegri told El Pais in 2015.

“We need to artificially rebuild things from the past, and that goes for football schools, too: We should have tools to force the boys to think. Otherwise, they are raised like chickens.

“Look at them, there is no communication, everything is through the mobile phones, they spend days sending text messages, and then it’s clear that there is no debate and they aren’t able to withstand heavy words and will start to cry.”

The Italian tactician has also welcomed the introduction of second teams in Italian football very warmly as they also allow clubs to lower costs. As Allegri recently told The Athletic: “When I came back (for his second spell as head coach, in summer 2021) I was asked to rejuvenate the team. The objective was to bring through three Next Gen players every year, lower the wage bill and make the team sustainable while remaining competitive.

“Manchester United have eight or nine players from their academy in the first team. Let’s say you have five players from the [Juventus] Next Gen in the first team for eight years. It means, for eight years, you have a cost that’s significantly lower than if you sign five players.”

The growing importance of Donnarumma for Italy https://football-italia.net/the-growing-importance-of-donnarumma-for-italy/ Tue, 30 Apr 2024 13:49:09 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=804276

Italy head into Euro 2024 as the reigning champions, and they will undoubtedly be looking to make it back-to-back successes as the kings of Europe. The Azzurri had Gianluigi Donnarumma to thank for winning the last Euros when Gli Azzurri defeated England in a penalty shootout in the Final, and Donnarumma will be the goalkeeper they will look to once again in Germany this summer.

Donnarumma has already amassed a stunning 61 caps for Italy at senior level, which is remarkable when you consider he’s only 25 years old. It’s also quite unusual to see the upcoming tournament’s reigning champions considered underdogs in the 2024 Euros betting odds. But considering that they’ve done it before, the Azzurri will travel to Germany this summer with a chance of doing it again, even if the betting suggests another victory is unlikely at this stage.

It’s fair to say that the most significant difference between this Italy side and the one that won the Euros three years ago is the defence. There’s no doubt that Luciano Spalletti has some good defenders on his list, but in 2021, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini were stationed in front of Donnarumma, and their wealth of experience and ability, even at 33 and 36, was pivotal, and one of the difference-makers for Italy at Euro 2020.

If even defenders of the calibre of Bonucci and Chiellini had to rely on Donnarumma to come up trumps in big moments, then the goalkeeper would be even more important at Euro 2024 in Germany. This will especially be the case in Italy’s Group B fixtures, as they will be battling against solid teams such as Croatia and Spain to make it to the knockout stages and the emerging and exciting Albania. Italy are expected to make it out of the group alongside Spain, but as proven at the World Cup, Croatia are a team capable of beating anyone of their day.

As emerged in recent fixtures, Gli Azzurri could set up with three centre-backs at the Euros, with Spalletti picking a 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1 formation. Under Roberto Mancini, when they won the competition in 2021, Italy played four at the back, and they proved tricky to score against, especially with the Bonucci and Chiellini link-up working so well. Spalletti started his spell as Italy’s coach with a four-man defence but has switched to a three-man backline in recent games, given that most Italy players are accustomed to playing with this defensive system.

Donnarumma will undoubtedly be Italy’s defence leader at Euro 2024 and not only because he’s expected to be the Azzurri’s captain in Germany. The PSG star made his professional debut for Milan at 16, debuted for Italy a year later, and is now PSG’s number-one goalkeeper. Not only that, but the giant of a shot-stopper, who stands at an imposing 6’5, has tasted success with his nation in this competition before, and he did it as the best player in the tournament. Gigio has also won the Ligue 1 title three times and is ready to defend the Azzurri’s goal again in j

Azzurri, Champions League and more: plenty of action for Serie A and Italy fans in 2024-25 https://football-italia.net/azzurri-champions-league-and-more-plenty-of-action-for-serie-a-and-italy-fans-in-2024-25/ Fri, 26 Apr 2024 13:42:11 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=803085

No Serie A clubs made it to the Champions League quarter-finals in 2023-24, but Italy still has a high chance of seeing five teams involved in the competition next season, while fans are anxiously waiting to see the Azzurri at Euro 2024 in the summer.

Most fans and pundits in Italy were shocked by Inter‘s Champions League exit at the hands of La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16. Not only the Nerazzurri are the runaway domestic leaders and on the verge of winning the 20th title in the club’s history, but they also reached the Champions League Final in 2023, losing to Manchester City with plenty of regrets.

Perhaps, not even Inter expected such an outcome, but Alessandro Bastoni recently tried to see the glass half full for the Nerazzurri: “We regret being eliminated by Atletico, and two years ago, being eliminated by Liverpool was almost seen as an accomplishment. This is already a big change,” the Italian defender said in his latest interview with Gazzetta.

In a season that has seen the Nerazzurri improve in any aspect, everyone thought Simone Inzaghi would have reached the later stages of the competition. However, Inter’s premature Champions League exit, which followed those of Milan, Napoli and Lazio, didn’t affect Serie A too much, given that results in the Europa League and Conference League are giving Italian football a unique chance of having five teams involved in Europe’s elite club competition next season.

Italy has finished among the top two countries in UEFA’s coefficient ranking, which is updated after every European match, in any of the three competitions. With Atalanta and Fiorentina‘s recent qualification for the Europa League and Conference League semis, Serie A will surely have five clubs in next’ seasons Champions League.

With five Serie A teams involved in the 2024-25 Champions League, it’s easy to predict there will be plenty of action for Italian football fans over the next year. On top of European club competitions, Spalletti’s Italy will defend their European champions status in Germany this summer, while Inter and Juventus will be involved in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup next year.

Aside from Serie A clubs, there are plenty of betting options regarding the upcoming Euros, including through no deposit bonus in the USA and it’s truly unsurprising to see the Azzurri out from the group of favourites, topped by England and France. Italy are often underrated but remain one of the most successful countries in the world with four World Cups, just one short of Brazil, and two European Championships.

Over the next 12 months and counting, Italian football fans can expect plenty of excitement in many different competitions, with top clubs and the Azzurri involved. There will be no month off starting from this summer Euros until the 2025 Club World Cup and beyond.

What future for Lautaro Martinez after Inter’s Serie A title win? https://football-italia.net/what-future-for-lautaro-martinez-after-inters-serie-a-title-win/ Thu, 25 Apr 2024 09:34:39 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=802885

With five more rounds until the end of the season, Inter finally reclaimed the Scudetto after two years. It truly was a team effort, but one name stands apart with great form and exceptional skills: Lautaro Martinez. Also known as “El Toro,” the Argentine forward finds himself at the heart of transfer rumours that could see him make a high-profile move, with clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United reportedly showing interest in this world-class player.

A Season to Remember

Martinez’s season has been exceptional with a remarkable tally of 23 goals in 29 Serie A games, positioning him as the league’s top scorer. His team did help him with that through assists coming from Marcus Thuram, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu and more teammates but Lautaro Martinez is not a one-season wonder. On the contrary, his form has always been remarkable at the Stadio Meazza having managed 128 goals in 277 games for the club since his arrival from Racing in 2018.

The World’s Third Best Forward

Recent evaluations by Sci Sports have placed Lautaro as the third-best forward globally, a testament to his skills and the latest proof that he’s one of the best forwards in the world. Even though his favourite foot is right, he netted 24 times with his weak foot and 18 with headers during his time at San Siro. Many regard him as a complete forward, and at 26 years of age, the best is yet to come.

Transfer Rumors and Real Madrid’s Interest

Everyone can see the value of Martinez. Big clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United have previously shown interest in signing the Argentine player, but it remains to be seen if the La Liga giants will make a move given that they are on the verge of signing Kylian Mbappé. On the other hand, Manchester United are in search of another top striker to partner with Rasmus Højlund. Even though the future of Erik ten Hag is not certain, club owners want to bring the best to Old Trafford and Lautaro Martinez was on their radar in 2023.  However, the feasibility of  Martinez’s transfer remains uncertain – he has a contract with Inter until 2026 and the Nerazzurri are negotiating a new deal for their captain. Nevertheless, bookies started their betting pools where Martnez will play next. Do you think you can guess where the Argentine forward goes next? You can bet on that outcome by using the Stake.com`s bonus codes and get a good start with your football predictions.

Inter’s Tough Stance on Martinez’s Future

Despite these rumours, Martinez has previously expressed that his long-term future lies with Inter. Also, the club’s management recently stated that they will do everything in their power to retain their key players as they aim to build a team capable of winning multiple cups in the future. CEO Beppe Marotta said the club is in no rush to find an agreement with El Toro, but both parties certainly want to continue together.

What Should We Expect in the Summer?

The 2024 summer transfer window has already started for some clubs which have analysed scouting reports and made initial connections with other sides. In the case of Lautaro Martinez, there is nothing concrete – only rumours at this stage. When the season is finally over, we will probably know more about concrete offers and interests from other big clubs in the old continent, but the most likely scenario sees Lautaro remain at Inter in 2024-25, with or without a contract extension. Regardless of what will happen in the summer, one thing is certain: Martinez’s talent, which greatly contributed to Inter’s recent success, will attract even more big clubs this summer.

Who will be in the Italy squad at Euro 2024? https://football-italia.net/who-will-be-in-the-italy-squad-at-euro-2024/ Mon, 22 Apr 2024 07:00:00 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=801861

Italy head into the 2024 European Championships in Germany this summer aiming to become just the second nation to retain the title, but who will be part of the Azzurri squad?

Spain famously achieved the feat in 2008 and 2012 – the first time any team had lifted the continental title in successive tournaments. The Azzurri defeated England at Wembley Stadium on penalties to win Euro 2020, but things have not gone to plan for them since then.

They failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and made pretty hard work of booking their spot at this summer’s tournament.

Their recent performances have failed to impress the bookmakers, with several teams currently ahead of them in the outright betting.

Italy can be backed at 16/1 to lift the trophy according to the latest Euro 2024 odds, highlighting the size of the task they face this summer.

Coach Luciano Spalletti has some tough decisions to make ahead of the tournament, with several places still up for grabs in his squad. Read on as we look at who Italy will face in Germany, before assessing which players will represent them at the tournament this summer.

Italy – Euro 2024 Fixtures – Group B

Italy have landed in a tricky opening group alongside Spain, Croatia and Albania, but will back themselves to progress to the knockout stage.

Spain are one of the favourites to win the tournament, while Croatia have the talent to beat any of the top ranked teams on their day.

Albania finished top of their qualifying group ahead of Czechia and Poland, and it would be foolish to underestimate their chances of upsetting the odds in this group.

  • vs Albania – June 15.
  • vs Spain – June 20.
  • vs Croatia – June 24.

Goalkeepers

Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint-Germain), Guglielmo Vicario (Tottenham Hotspur), Alex Meret (Napoli).

Donnarumma was Italy’s hero at Euro 2020, producing a series of stellar performances to become the first goalkeeper to win the Player of the Tournament award.

The 25-year-old will be an undisputed starter this summer and must be at his best if Italy are to have any chance of retaining the title.

Meret and Vicario look set to serve as Donnarumma’s understudies in Germany despite having just four caps between them.

Marco Carnesecchi (Atalanta) and Ivan Provedel (Lazio) have yet to make their international debuts but are in line for a call-up if anything happens to Italy’s top goalies.

Defenders

Francesco Acerbi (Inter), Federico Dimarco (Inter), Alessandro Bastoni (Inter), Alessandro Buongiorno (Torino), Raoul Bellanova (Torino), Giovanni Di Lorenzo (Napoli), Giorgio Scalvini (Atalanta), Matteo Darmian (Inter).

Inter players will unsurprisingly feature heavily at the back for Italy following their impressive form for the Serie A champions-elect this season.

Acerbi, Dimarco and Bastoni are all strong contenders to start, which will give Spalletti’s side a strong platform to build from this summer.

Di Lorenzo is also in line to feature heavily, while Buongiorno and Scalvini add further depth to Italy’s defensive options this summer.

Andrea Cambiaso is pushing for inclusion, especially after Destiny Udogie’s injury, but Inter’s Matteo Darmian is favourite as he can also play as a centre-back.

Midfield

Jorginho (Arsenal), Davide Frattesi (Inter), Giacomo Bonaventura (Fiorentina), Manuel Locatelli (Juventus), Bryan Cristante (Roma), Nicolo Barella (Inter), Lorenzo Pelligrini (Roma).

Italy are blessed with plenty of options in midfield including Barella, who will carry the weight of creative expectations on his shoulders in Germany.

Jorginho and Locatelli will battle for a starting role as the midfield anchor, while Pelligrini’s versatility should see him feature regularly in the starting XI.

Bonaventura is also another player Spalletti will rely on this summer, while Frattesi will be given opportunities to showcase his talent this summer.

Monza pair Andrea Colpani and Matteo Pessina are pushing to be included, but they will probably be overlooked by Spalletti.

Forwards

Federico Chiesa (Juventus), Giacomo Raspadori (Napoli), Mateo Retegui (Genoa), Gianluca Scamacca (Atalanta), Nicolò Zaniolo (Aston Villa).

While Italy have plenty of options to choose from in other areas of the pitch, the same cannot be said for their attack.

The Azzurri’s lack of a world-class number nine could be the key factor in preventing them from defending the title this summer.

However, Mateo Retegui seems their biggest hope after netting four goals in six appearances, while Gianluca Scamacca is finishing the season on a high note and is battling to be included in the squad.

The pressure will be on winger Chiesa to recapture his Euro 2024 form, but even that may not be enough to help Italy emerge victorious this summer.

What to expect from Italy at Euro 2024 https://football-italia.net/what-to-expect-from-italy-at-euro-2024/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 10:47:49 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=798837

Italy will face Spain, Croatia, and Albania in the 2024 Euro Group B and the odds from leading sportsbooks put the Azzurri way out of the favourites spot, but we all know what the La Nazionale are capable of with their backs to the wall.

The dates of fixtures have also been set and will see the Azzurri kick off their Euro ride on June 15 against Albania before taking on Spain on June 20 and Croatia on June 24.

Across the last four years, Italian football has been on a decidedly wild ride, but Euro 2024 excitement is already running through the country. The Azzurri went from Euro 2020 glory to World Cup misery in barely nine months, failing to reach qualification for the World’s most important competition twice in a row. At the same time, three Serie A clubs reached the European finals last season, but Inter, Roma and Fiorentina all lost, keeping Italy waiting for the first major European trophy since 2010.

So, what should we expect from Spalletti’s men in Germany this summer? That depends on your outlook. Some analysts have noted that Italy will likely struggle against Spain given its incredible pedigree—and against Croatia, a team that looked highly competitive in both the 2020 Euro and 2022 World Cup. Others think the team’s failure to qualify for the World Cup has lit a fire for the Italian side—one that could potentially make them a highly competitive dark horse.

Sportsbooks Weigh In

At the moment, sportsbooks are favouring France and England to slug it out in a championship battle. The odds are slightly in England’s favour, just like they were during the Euro 2020 competition. Italy, by contrast, is listed in the middle of the pack alongside the Netherlands.

Let’s take a look back at the Euro qualifiers. Italy was in Group C alongside England, Ukraine, North Macedonia, and Malta. The Three Lions had clearly taken the last Euro results personally and logged four wins and two draws (including a win against Italy). By contrast, the Italian side ended with four wins, two draws, and two defeats to England.

The results weren’t a huge shocker, but the goal differentials signify a problem for Italy. Italy came away with a seven-goal differential compared to England’s eighteen. Both at home and away, Italy failed to take down the Three Lions. However, some have pointed out that the Azzurri have had two coaches since qualifying began. Going forward, they’ll at least be aligned under Spalletti.

A Potential’ Group of Death’ in Group B

Here’s the thing about Italy’s underdog status heading into the 2024 Euro: they weren’t favourites during the 2021 competition, either. At the time, England were also co-favorites with France to sweep the tournament. This time around, however, the Italian team finds itself in a potential’ group of death’.

That’s nothing new, either. Back in 2012, Italy entered the Euro alongside Spain, Croatia, and Ireland. Despite lacklustre odds from sportsbooks, the team scraped by and advanced out of the group stages—before going on to face Spain in the Finals. To say that the Azzurri are able to topple the odds might be an understatement.

A Worst-Case Scenario

Even if Italy isn’t able to take down Spain or Croatia in Group B, the magic of the Euro is that it allows three of the four third-ranked group-stage teams to advance. Losing out to Spain and Croatia wouldn’t necessarily mean the end for the Italian side.

Once again, it’s worth pointing out that the team looks unified and strong under Spalletti. The team also has a few more months to improve before the competition kicks off. The goal until then is to create a single unit from the available players that can use teamwork to its full advantage.

On top of that, a little confidence never hurt anyone. Spalletti hasn’t wavered in his belief that his side could take another Euro win. As he put it, ‘Never forget that we are Italy.’ Could this be the third time the Azzurri take home a Euro win?

What are Jose Mourinho’s possible destinations after Roma? https://football-italia.net/what-are-jose-mourinhos-possible-destinations-after-roma/ Sun, 07 Apr 2024 12:43:00 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=797571

Jose Mourinho has been out of work since January, when Roma dismissed him after a poor start to the 2023-24 season. During his time at the Stadio Olimpico, the Portuguese manager guided the club to the UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2022 and followed it up with a run to the UEFA Europa League final just a year later. However, a poor run of results that left Roma 9th in the league led the club to part ways with him.

Despite being sacked at his previous four clubs (Roma, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Chelsea), Mourinho is still an elite manager. He has lifted the Champions League twice and won eight league titles in England (three), Portugal (two), Italy (two), and Spain (one). When recently questioned about his future, he stated: “I want to work tomorrow if possible, but I don’t want to make the wrong decision.”

So where could he end up? Here are the most likely destinations according to the latest soccer betting odds.

A Return to Portugal?

Mourinho has won pretty much everything there is to win in Europe. In fact, he is the only manager to win all three UEFA competitions: the Champions League, the Europa League, and the Europa Conference League. So why not return to his native Portugal?

There’s been speculation that it might happen, and he was recently questioned about returning to manage in the country. Mourinho simply said, “Why? Never say no, especially in football. My life is football, I can train anywhere, I have no problems.”

Although he has previously turned down the Portugal national team job while he was at Manchester United, Porto is being rumored as a possible destination. This is the club where he made his name by winning the Champions League in 2004, and the current manager, Sergio Conceicao, may as well depart if the club doesn’t win silverware this season.

Newcastle United

Jose Mourinho was touted among the most likely recruits when the Saudi Investment Fund (PIF) took over Newcastle United. However, Eddie Howe got the job and went on to achieve fantastic results, finishing fourth in the 2022-2023 Premier League season and securing Champions League football.

However, this season has been underwhelming for Newcastle and Eddie Howe, leading to Mourinho rumours. This intensified in early March when Mourinho was spotted meeting with Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan at the Saudi Grand Prix.

Chelsea

Chelsea have been enduring a harder season under Mauricio Pochettino than anyone would have anticipated. Naturally, this has made many fans lose trust in the Argentinian, sparking rumours of a possible return to Stamford Bridge for Mou. In fact, disgruntled supporters recently sang the name of their former manager during a 2-2 draw with Brentford. At the same time, Pochetino has admitted that he doesn’t feel the “love” of supporters due to the difficulties he is experiencing in his first season at the club.

Mourinho will always be a popular figure at Chelsea, having won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and three League Cups across his two spells at the club. However, a move to Stamford Bridge isn’t the most likely option for Mou as it may be too early for Chelsea to fire Pochettino. Club owner Todd Boehly will have to be careful not to make a hasty decision, and it doesn’t feel like he will be rewinding time despite some fans calling for Mourinho.

Saudi Pro League

While Mou can always land a job at a top club, many people in football now see the Portuguese as a legend past his prime. This is especially due to the drastic change in modern football tactics, with emerging coaches now leaning towards the playing styles of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp. So why not cave to the allure of the Saudi Pro League?

The league has been attracting top talent from Europe for over a year now, and Mourinho can take advantage of several opportunities in Saudi Arabia. This includes working with Cristiano Ronaldo again, as Al-Nassr will likely miss out on the opportunity to win the title this season. Furthermore, if Mou remains available for much longer, other clubs from the Middle East will surely get in touch.

How can Serie A clubs regain their dominance in European football? https://football-italia.net/how-can-serie-a-clubs-regain-their-dominance-in-european-football/ Wed, 03 Apr 2024 11:32:25 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=796549

There was a time when the Serie A clubs were dominating European football. But times have changed dramatically in the past two decades, as Italian clubs rarely compete at the higher stages. Premier League and La Liga quickly overtook the throne that once belonged to clubs from the Peninsula. Aside from Italy winning Euro 2020 and Serie A clubs playing the European Finals in 2022-23, Italian sides have rarely reached the last stages of top competitions, and the Azzurri haven’t played the World Cup since 2014. So, how can Italian football regain dominance in the Old Continent?

Change the Style of Play

The modern style of football requires a lot of running, pressing, and working together. This is, in many ways, opposite to the Italian way of playing football.

Serie A clubs are famous for their strong defences, where they defend with almost every player. For several years, this tactical masterpiece was working remarkably. But, football changed in the past two decades, and these clubs are finding it difficult to cope with it. As recently highlighted by Pep Guardiola, Inter, Napoli and Milan, have been showing different approaches lately and even Atalanta have often been praised by the Spaniard tactician.

We must also mention that some Italian coaches, including the emerging Thiago Motta, Vincenzo Italiano, and Raffaele Palladino, are starting to implement this modern football style.

Even the bettors see their capabilities, as they often back them at the bookmakers. Some of them even use the extra funds provided by the sign up offer from Matchbook.

Some older managers, like Stefano Pioli and Gian Piero Gasperini, are also incorporating the new style of football. This looks very promising for the future of the Serie A clubs in European football. Yet, the other managers must follow up to raise the league’s competitiveness.

Develop Domestic Players

Another major issue that the Serie A clubs are facing is the development of their own Italian players. Italy was once a force in the international competitions. Now, it failed to qualify for the past two World Cups. However, it did win the UEFA Euro 2020, which surprised many football fans.

The lack of good domestic players in Serie A is causing a lot of problems for the clubs. In the past several years, many young Italian prospects failed to reach their full potential.

In 2002, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) tried to partially solve this problem by limiting the non-EU players the clubs could sign, cutting the number of new signings from outside the EU to two. The recent scrap of the growth decree and the rise of U23 teams will also potentially help Italian clubs develop domestic talents.

Build New and Better Stadiums and Improve the Training Facilities

Last but not least, we must mention the importance of newer stadiums and modern training facilities. This goes hand in hand with the previous topics that we mentioned.

Historically, the state of Italy has owned the country’s stadiums and has a very strict legal administration. Five clubs out of the 20 in Serie A currently own a stadium: Juventus, Udinese, Sassuolo, Frosinone, and Atalanta.

The other clubs, especially Inter and AC Milan, are struggling to build a stadium for more than 20 years. As a result, they get to play at venues that have very bad infrastructure and are too expensive to maintain.

Also, the clubs must pay a lot of money to rent the stadiums. For instance, AC Milan and Inter have paid a total of €64.8m to rent the Stadio Meazza for the past eight years. This stadium was last renovated in 1990, and some other stadiums have even worse infrastructure.

Serie A clubs must also invest more in their training facilities and staff. This is crucial in modern football, as it helps the players’ development. It can also attract new players, who would be fond of training at a state-of-the-art facility.

Could Inter match or beat Juventus’ point record in Serie A? https://football-italia.net/could-inter-match-or-beat-juventus-point-record-in-serie-a/ Fri, 29 Mar 2024 14:36:24 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=795246

Inter still have a chance to beat Juventus‘ point record in Serie A, but must win all the remaining matches.

Antonio Conte’s Juventus hold the record for the most points collected in a single Serie A campaign. The Bianconeri managed 102 in the 2013-14 season, securing the second consecutive Scudetto. One year earlier, they had won the first domestic title in the post-Calciopoli era, remaining unbeaten in 38 matches.

Juventus literally dominated Serie A between 2011 and 2020, winning nine Serie A titles in a row. But the second season under Conte was one of the most terrific in terms of domestic results for the Old Lady. Their dominance was similar to what Simone Inzaghi’s Inter are showing this term.

The Nerazzurri are top of the table with 76 points. They’ve won 24 games from 29, drawing four times and losing only once. If they win all the remaining nine matches this term, they’ll beat the Juventus record by one point.

Tactical Brilliance and Consistent Performances

Inter are by far the best-performing team in Serie A this season. They have the most prolific attack and the less-beaten defence in the league and of course, the best goal difference, +57.

If you watch any YouTube video of their games this season (this was one of the best), you’ll understand why they’ve been so brilliant. Simone Inzaghi has developed a team that lost many players during the summer. Romelu Lukaku, André Onana, and Milan Skriniar, just to name a few, left the Meazza and were perfectly replaced by the club. The coach did the rest.

The Role of Squad Depth and Player Morale

Players have always been in a good mood this season. Aside from the recent scandal involving Francesco Acerbi, there were no controversies around the club and even the Champions League elimination in the Round of 16 didn’t affect the footballers’ morale.

Inzaghi always relied on the team’s depth, often rotating his squad and giving all players chances to play and show their skills on the pitch. Inter’s league win is almost inevitable but the question remains: Will they be able to beat Juventus’ point record?

The Derby Against Milan

A key game in the final part of the season will be the derby against Milan on April 22. The Nerazzurri have won the last five meetings with their city rivals, including two in the Champions League semis last season and one in Serie A this term when they secured a 5-1 win.

If they beat Milan again this term, they could secure the 20th Serie A title in history in front of their city rivals, another source of pride for Inzaghi and his boys.

How the abolishment of Growth Decree will impact Serie A clubs https://football-italia.net/how-the-abolishment-of-the-growth-decree-will-impact-serie-a-clubs/ Wed, 27 Mar 2024 17:54:39 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=795000

The Growth Decree introduced by the Italian Government five years ago is no longer valid, so which consequences should Serie A clubs expect?

The law approved in 2019 helped Italian clubs sign foreign talents or Italian players or coaches who had been living outside the Peninsula for at least two consecutive years. Over its short existence, the Growth Decree had a significant impact, with several top names like Cristiano Ronaldo and decorated elite coaches like Jose Mourinho gracing the league.

The decree provided huge tax reliefs for players, coaches, and clubs, reducing the normal 48% tax to only 24%. Italian clubs made huge savings from the tax cuts, and the effectiveness of this decree was particularly evident in the 2022-23 campaign when Serie A clubs had representatives in each of the three European Finals: the Champions League, the Europa League, and the Conference League.

Extraordinary results in European competitions didn’t only depend on the Growth Decree, but will Serie A clubs be able to achieve the same result now that the law has been scrapped?

What Implications the Abolishment Is Going to Have

One clear implication is that Serie A clubs will probably struggle to offer competitive salaries to players and coaches coming from abroad, giving even more advantage to Premier League clubs and top La Liga sides, like Barcelona and Real Madrid. On paper, it will be more difficult for Serie A teams to attract top foreign players and match salaries offered by other clubs in the Old Continent. However, there is also good news.

The abolishment of the Growth Decree, in fact, must force Italian clubs to focus more on youth development. Juventus and Atalanta are already ahead of other competitors, having launched their U23 teams, which play in Italy’s third division. The Bianconeri, in particular, have developed several talents through their second team. Players like Dean Huijsen, Matias Soulé, and even Radu Dragusin, just to name a few, have all come through the NextGen squad in Turin.

Why Was This Abolishment Effected?

Italy desperately needs to grow talents and become once again a leading country in footballing terms. One of the latest CIES reports shows that over 61% of Serie A players come from abroad. They also feature in most games, playing slightly over 65% of the matches in a season. Curtailing foreign player imports is therefore being seen as a move that will make clubs rely on Italian players more. Hopefully, this will push Serie A clubs to give more chances to products of their academies and help develop young Italian players.

Italy have missed out on the last two editions of the World Cup and despite the triumph at Euro 2020 in between, the country hasn’t been able to produce talents like Roberto Baggio, Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti. Aside from the political implications of abolishing the growth decree, football fans should focus on the consequences this will have on the whole system. Clubs may seem weaker in the short term due to struggles competing with richer leagues, but Italy could see benefits for the national team in the long run.

All Serie A teams out of the Champions League: What does it mean for Italian football? https://football-italia.net/italian-football-champions-league-serie-a-out/ Sat, 23 Mar 2024 11:23:59 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=794302

Contrary to last season, the 2023-24 Champions League campaign was highly disappointing for Italian clubs who were all eliminated before the quarter-finals. Milan were the first one to go, facing elimination in the group phase, but the Rossoneri were quickly followed by Inter, Napoli and Lazio in the Round of 16.

But what does this mass exit say about the state of Italian football? Is it simply a case of bad luck, or does it signal a more damning assessment of the quality of Serie A teams? Let’s dive in and explore this intriguing topic further.

MADRID, SPAIN - MARCH 13: Players of FC Internazionale look dejected in the penalty shoot out during the UEFA Champions League 2023/24 round of 16 second leg match between Atlético Madrid and FC Internazionale at Civitas Metropolitano Stadium on March 13, 2024 in Madrid, Spain. Unlucky Break or Systemic Issue?

On the surface, this may seem like a stroke of bad luck—after all, football is a game of fine margins, and anything can happen in 90 minutes. To be fair, Italian teams were quite lucky in the knockout draws a year ago, but this time around, Lady Luck turned her back on the Serie A. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that there may be deeper issues at play.

For starters, Italian teams have traditionally been known for their defensive prowess and tactical acumen. Historically, Serie A has produced some of the most formidable defensive units in football, with teams like Milan, Juventus and Inter renowned for their stingy backlines. Historically, the sacred rule for Serie A clubs is to avoid conceding rather than trying to score more goals than their opponents.

However, in recent years, there has been a noticeable shift in the balance of power, with teams from other European leagues – particularly the Premier League and La Liga – adopting more attacking styles of play and outmanoeuvring their Italian counterparts.

Lack of Depth and Quality

Another factor that may have contributed to Italian teams’ struggles is the perceived lack of depth and quality in Serie A. Napoli, Inter and Milan have enjoyed domestic success in recent years, and all reached the quarter-finals last season. Inter went on until the Champions League Final, while Roma and Fiorentina reached the same stage in the Europa League and Conference League, respectively.

However, Italian clubs are no longer dominating in Europe like 15 or 20 years ago and it feels like last season’s achievements were the exception and not the rule.

Additionally, the financial disparity between Italian clubs and their European rivals may also be a contributing factor. While teams like Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid can afford to splash the cash on marquee signings, blackjack, unnecessary luxuries, and top-tier talent, Italian clubs often operate under tighter financial constraints.

This discrepancy in spending power can make it difficult for Italian teams to compete for top talent in the transfer market and maintain competitiveness at the highest level.

Rebuilding and Rejuvenation

Despite the disappointing exit from the Champions League, all hope is not lost for Italian football. In fact, the recent struggles of Serie A teams may serve as a wake-up call for the country’s footballing authorities and clubs to reassess their approach and make necessary changes to revitalise the sport.

One potential avenue for improvement is investing in youth development and talent scouting. Italy has a rich history of producing world-class footballers, and by nurturing young talent and providing them with opportunities to shine on the big stage, Italian clubs can build a solid foundation for future success.

Additionally, Italian teams may have an opportunity to adopt more progressive playing styles and embrace innovation in tactics and strategy to keep pace with the ever-evolving landscape of European football.

Conclusion

The exit of all Italian teams from the Champions League raises important questions about the state of Italian football and its place on the European stage. While it may be tempting to dismiss this outcome as a fluke or stroke of bad luck, it also serves as a sobering reminder of the challenges facing Italian football in the modern era.

However, with the right mindset, investment, and strategic planning, there is no reason why Italian football cannot reclaim its former glory and once again compete at the highest level. It’s time for Italian football to rise to the challenge, adapt to the changing landscape of European football, and reclaim its rightful place among the continent’s elite.

Did European elimination prompt Sarri’s resignation as Lazio coach? https://football-italia.net/did-european-elimination-prompt-sarris-resignation/ Tue, 19 Mar 2024 15:46:26 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=793673

The news that Maurizio Sarri quit Lazio came in the wake of three consecutive Serie A losses, four across all competitions. It was a record the esteemed and successful head coach would not condone from himself or his players, and his departure from the club confirmed this.

Sarri’s football management career stretches back to 1990, and the Biancocelesti were the 21st club he managed during his distinguished career. Despite the 65-year-old manager never seeming entirely happy during his two-and-a-half-year stay in the Italian capital, he produced results for most of his time there. After replacing fan-favourite Simone Inzaghi, he led Lazio to fifth in Serie A in his first season and in 2022-23, he improved that position further, with the Rome club ending as Serie A runner-up, albeit distantly behind a rampant Napoli side.

The second-place finish marked Lazio’s highest final position in the league since Sven-Göran Eriksson’s Serie A-winning campaign in 1999-2000 and meant Sarri’s team qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since Inzaghi’s Lazio finished 4th in 2019-20.

Ironically, the same Champions League would prove the last straw for the surly manager. After taking a surprise 1-0 first-leg lead into the away fixture with Bayern Munich in the Round of 16, Lazio capitulated to the German giants’ attacking masterclass. Two Harry Kane goals and a third from veteran Thomas Müller eliminated the Biancocelesti from the tournament.

Lazio’s elimination from the Champions League was followed by Inter‘s as the Nerazzuri were knocked out by Atletico Madrid the following week, while Napoli lost to Barcelona. This means there is no Serie A representation in the tournament’s quarter-finals for the first time in seven years. According to the best offshore betting sportsbooks, the favourite remains Man City (7/4), with fellow EPL team Arsenal joined by Real Madrid at 5/1. Bayern Munich is listed at 6/1.

Although the Serie A side was the underdog against Bayern, their first-leg win at the Stadio Olimpico deceived many, but probably not Sarri. The Italian tactician kept complaining about the team’s depth and quality in some areas of the pitch, and not all players were happy with his management. When Udinese visited Lazio in a Serie A fixture barely two weeks ago, Sarri seemed a solitary, almost disinterested figure at Stadio Olimpico.

The manager’s demeanour was mirrored by the players’ attitude on the pitch, and Udinese’s win in the capital seemed inevitable. Despite dominating possession, Lazio could not make any positive inroads against an opponent with only three Serie A wins this season

The 1-2 result was fair as Udinese forged the better chances throughout the match. Lazio looked sloppy, weak, and with no more motivation, and it was not surprising to hear President Claudio Lotito blame players a few days later, accusing them of having betrayed the Tuscan tactician.

Although Maurizio Sarri tendered his resignation less than 48 hours after the Udinese defeat, the Champions League elimination probably showed him he could no longer develop the team. It’s no coincidence that the Italian coach reportedly told his players in the dressing room after the Udinese game that he would resign as they were no longer following him. By doing so, he forfeited a wage payout of nearly €5m.

Which Serie A clubs will qualify for the 2024-25 Champions League? https://football-italia.net/which-serie-a-clubs-will-qualify-for-the-2024-25-champions-league/ Tue, 19 Mar 2024 08:12:46 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=793609

The final and decisive part of the season has started, and the race for the top four in Serie A remains wide open. But who will qualify for next season’s Champions League?

Less than three months before the end of another thrilling Serie A campaign. Inter have practically secured their 20th title in history, but there’s much more to look out for in the final ten games of the campaign.

First and foremost, who will join the Nerazzurri in the Champions League next season? Milan and Juventus are better placed at the moment, while Atalanta, Bologna, and Roma are fighting for the last spot remaining. However, considering the recent run of form of clubs involved in the race, surprises are around the corner.

Of course, fans can place bets and predict the top four Serie A clubs for the 2023-24 campaign. Furthermore, no deposit sign up bonuses by Erik King is an excellent method to test out a new casino without investing a lot of money. And don’t forget welcoming bonuses, which are the best and cheapest way to place bets, as you don’t even need to use your real money! There’s a world behind betting, but let us tell you more about who is more likely to end the season in the top four in Serie A, so you won’t gamble randomly.

Many may think that Roma, due to their history, are the favorite to end the season in fourth. Well, you may have to think again. Despite stunning results under Daniele De Rossi, the Giallorossi remain three points behind Bologna, arguably the most surprising team in Italy’s top flight this term.

The Rossoblu recently lost to Inter at the Stadio Dall’Ara, but they had won the previous five matches, including those against direct rivals Lazio, Fiorentina, and Atalanta.

Thiago Motta’s men are three points above Roma and seven above Atalanta, who have a game in hand and recently held Juventus to a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Stadium. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men still have a high chance of qualifying for the Champions League, but, just like Roma, they are still in the Europa League, so they may burn more energy than Bologna in the final months of the campaign.

On the other hand, the Rossoblu recently suffered an injury to their star striker, Josjua Zirkzee, who will remain out of action for at least a month.

Due to their innovative playing style and high enthusiasm, Bologna remain the favourite to end fourth in Serie A this season, but playing several matches without the Dutch star may change their fortunes.

There’s also a chance that five Serie A clubs will qualify for the Champions League next season, and it depends on how well Italian clubs do in European competitions this term. If Serie A clubs manage to end in the top two for UEFA’s Country coefficients, then five clubs from the Peninsula will be involved in Europe’s elite competition in 2024-25.

Milan vs Slavia Praha

Milan will face Slavia Praha away in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 second leg. The Rossoneri’s journey to this stage saw them secure a 5-3 aggregate victory over Rennes.

In the first leg at San Siro, Milan dominated with a 3-0 win, ensuring an easy game back at home. However, the tables turned as they found themselves trailing three times, ultimately losing 3-2.

Stefano Pioli’s men will look for a more comfortable game in Prague on Thursday. They had already beat Slavia in the first leg at San Siro but struggled more than they thought, securing a 4-2 win against a team that played down to ten more for more than an hour after a straight red card for El Hadji Malick Diouf at minute 26.

More and more bettors are looking at this match as a potential golden bet. Namely, Slavia is coming as an outsider, but Milan are not showing their best game yet. If betting is not your cup of tea, you can sit back and relax with some free slots no download. You can find all the main information on how and where to play them on trusted review sites.

Having topped their group, Liverpool secured a direct route to round 16, bypassing the playoff round. On the other hand, Sparta Prague won against Galatasaray in a two-legged tie to reach this stage. The Premier League giants already secured a comfortable 5-1 away win in Prague last week and need one last step to earn a spot in the quarter-finals.

Klopp’s Liverpool have really had a challenging journey through the 2023-24 season. Klopp’s midfield tactics are still working like a charm, so let’s see what lies ahead for the Reds:

  • Klopp’s strategic moves brought in four new midfielders, boosting Liverpool’s prospects.
  • The journey to perfection continues, with Klopp recognising the need for more improvements.
